Turned Hollow Forms

I've been wanting to turn bowls and other hollow forms since I got my lathe.  All I have seemed to turn up to this point is a few drawer pulls, lots of pens, some dowels and some other small things.

This year I worked up the nerve to turn a cup and a bowl for my girls for Christmas.  I am thinking my oldest daughter could use the cup to put her makeup brushes in (or something like that).  And my younger daughter can put some things in the bowl I turned.

I hope they both like them!

The cup is turned from some pieces of Walnut that I glued together.

The bowl is turned from some Cherry and some other wood that I glued together.  I'm not sure what the wood is.  At first I thought it was White Oak, however, I think it was too soft to be White Oak so I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I think it looks cool!
