For Liona's 10th birthday I made her a small little nicknack shelf that she could put small things on. The shelf was made out of Cherry hardwood.
I milled a few different boards that roughly were the same color. The back panel was milled out of a larger width board and re-sawn on the bandsaw to make a large back.
Each shelf is set into a stopped hand-cut dado to support each shelf better. (I probably would have cut these on a machine, if I hadn't waited till the boards were as far along in the process as they were. It really wasn't that bad to be honest, and it was relaxing. Juts me, a chisel and a hammer, a marking knife and a square, I guess it was a whole party of tools).
For the top and bottoms I used a hand-cut dovetails to reenforce the joint.
Happy 10th Birthday Liona!
