My mother commissioned me to build a "Deacon's Bench" style toy-box for my niece for her Christmas. I dug around on the internet for some ideas and some samples to show mom, came up with a sketch, sent it to mom, made some adjustments and when we finally settled on a design she liked I got to work.
Before I found sketch-up (or learned how to use it). I drew out the design and measurements in a notebook for reference.
I drew up a rough (very rough) sketch to start getting measurements so I could start collecting the wood I'd need for the project.
Some cutting and milling.
More milling...
Starting to layout the frame and panels.
At this point I think things were finally starting to come together and I could see the end of the project becoming a reality.
I'm not sure if glue ups are fun or scary, on one hand you can see progress, on the other hand, I sure do hope everything is lined up right cause once its glued that's kind of permanent.
I was even able to get my son in the shop to help me out with the project.
Was able to finish up the project late the night before we had to pack the truck up to leave to go visit family in Ohio where the project would be delivered.
Mom put her touch on the project by gluing on some cute foam letters to personalize the project for Ellie.
